ENERGY FACTS

ENERGY FACTS

Electric power from powerplants is measured in Watts (actually Watt hrs)
1 KW (kilowatt) = 1000 W (Watts)
1 MW (megawatt) = 1000 KW
1 GW (gigawatt) = 1000 MW

The average house uses electricity at about 1 KW per hour
The average base load power plant burning coal or natural gas in the US puts out about 800 MW per hour and runs about 800,000 homes
The most powerful wind turbine puts out about 2.5 MW so a (10) turbine farm generates 25 MW, which can run about 5,600 homes (they only run 25% since the wind is cyclical).
